Remodeling my half bathroom

Each round gets easier to plan.

Last year, I had two full bathrooms remodeled on the 2nd floor. One has a standing shower and the other has a bathtub with shower. They each cost about $14k total, including labor, parts, and trash disposal. The investment's been well worth it for quality of life and easier maintenance. I enjoy using our 2nd floor bathrooms so much more.

This month, I remodeled the half bathroom on the main floor of my house. I used the same contractor for all 3 projects. I've come to trust his work and appreciate his kind, reasonable, helpful personality.

Cost breakdown

Part Cost
Freestanding sink w/ cabinet $296.00
Floor tilex2 $215.60
Black faucet $149.00
Black medicine cabinet $249
Warm terracotta paint, 1gal $60.98
Exhaust fan $134
Black vanity lights $82.41
Black toilet paper & towel holders $51.42
Cherry wood shelves I bought years ago, so saying "free" $0.00
Labor, cleanup, misc. supplies $4500.00
Tax $75.79
Delivery $10.00
Parts total $1324.20
Overall total $5824.20

The first bathroom, which involved replacing a standing shower, took a full two weeks. The second bathroom, which involved replacing a bathtub with shower, took maybe 1.5 weeks, with some delays due to slow parts shipments.

This last (1/2) bathroom took a quick 3.5 days – first day, demolition, was only a couple hours.

Reflections

Each project has had its unforeseen challenges, but none that my contractors haven't been unable to handle. The impact to me was needing to buy alternative parts, and in all cases my contractors helped me return my parts for free to the local Home Depot. ❤️

To top it off, on the last half day of work, my contractor replaced my new but defective garbage disposal. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

What's next in my aspirations for home improvement projects? Definitely replace the dishwasher (from previous homeowner and looks to be the oldest appliance). After that, nothing pressing. 🤞 At some point, maybe finally clean up this closet in my office that has some ugly doors full of stickers from the previous homeowner, or repaint the bedrooms and office...
